This is how I begin my day with a bowl of a Steel Cut Oats. I used to eat the normal quick cooking oats but now honestly I am hooked to steel cut oats plus there the least processed oats out of the bunch and they taste good too.
Steel Cut Oats keep you fuller longer then the regular oats because of their low glycemic index which basically means that it is broken down and absorbed slowly by the body resulting in a steady rise in blood sugar and insulin levels in short you wont have crazy highs and lows which normally occur when you eat regular breakfast like breads, buns etc.
Cooking these oats in my opinion is very easy since you just keep it on a low flame for about 20 mins and go about with your morning routine. I normally let it cook while i go for my jog and when i come back my steel cut oats are ready.
Take about 3 tbsp steel cut oats in a medium sized saucepan and pour in milk. I use Bob’s Steel Cut Oats and let it simmer for 20 mins on a low flame.
It really depends on how much you want to make i sometimes make a huge batch of oats which lasts me for 4 to 5 days and i just warm it up in the morning with some milk. For those days when you don’t want to move at all make a batch of steel cut oats beforehand.
From here you can do anything with it, i used to initially add in dark chocolate chips but now while the steel cut oats are cooking i add in three chopped dates, hazelnuts, walnuts and almonds etc. I let everything cook for 20 mins. The dates add such a sweet flavour to the oats because as they cook they release there natural sugar.
When its cooked add in honey and top it off with any fruit bananas or strawberries or you can always keep it plain.
And there you have it Steel Cut Oats ready to be eaten 🙂
